Scrum Master 3.0: Advanced Scrum Master Training

Scrum Master 3.0 series is all about empirical thinking and getting from unconscious incompetence to conscious competence while living the Scrum Values.
Scrum Master 3.0 is more than just a standard training. It is an advanced workshop designed and facilitated by Professional Scrum Trainers (PSTs) designed to take you from unconscious incompetence to conscious competence. Not one session of Scrum Master 3.0 is the same. Because every situation, every participant, and every day is different. The same goes for your teams and organizations. There is no silver bullet, or one size fits all. There is great value in the Scrum Values and empiricism. In these two days, we will activate your muscle memory and coach, reflect and introspect on your knowledge and behavior as a Scrum Master.

Preparing for the PSM III Assessment?

Are you looking for PSM III preparation? While there is no official Scrum.org class for the PSM III assessment, this workshop bridges the gap between theory (PSM II) and deep practical understanding. By challenging your stance on Agile Leadership and Scrum Values, this course could provide the essential reflection needed to pass the rigorous PSM III exam.

Interactive Learning: No Death by PowerPoint

No Death by PowerPoint Forget boring lectures. We believe in active learning. Our workshops utilize Liberating Structures, interactive exercises, and real-world case studies to ensure the theory sticks. You won't just memorize the Scrum Guide; you will experience how to apply it in complex, real-life scenarios.

Two trainers

Always two trainers
Double the Expertise: Unlike standard courses, we deliver our Scrum Master 3.0 workshops with two expert trainers. This 'Two-Trainer Magic' ensures you get diverse perspectives, increased personal attention during breakout sessions, and a dynamic learning environment that keeps you engaged. Our Scrum Master 3.0 trainers are active practitioners who bring many years of practical experience to the classroom.

Language

English-First Approach We are dedicated to delivering high-quality training experiences globally. By default, our Professional Scrum Master classes (both in-person and virtual) are conducted in English to ensure a consistent learning environment. Inclusive Environment: We are experienced in training non-native speakers and use clear, accessible language. Other Languages: If a specific class is offered in Dutch or another language, this will be clearly marked in the schedule.

In-person or virtual

Flexible Training Options We understand that every learner is different. Choose the format that fits your lifestyle:
  • In-Person Classes: Experience the energy of face-to-face collaboration. Perfect for those who thrive on direct interaction and physical networking.
  • Virtual Classes (Live Online): Learn from anywhere in the world. Our online courses are designed for engagement, using digital whiteboards and breakout rooms to replicate the classroom experience.
Join us for in-person classes at our training hubs in Amersfoort, The Netherlands and UK, or connect with us globally via our interactive virtual classrooms.

Who should take this course?

Scrum Master 3.0 is for Scrum Masters seeking to deepen their role; not only with new knowledge but with new perspectives on their behavior and effectiveness. The course is not about theory. It’s about living the Scrum Values and effectively applying empiricism in everyday situations. It’s about avoiding being the superhero Scrum Master. It’s overcoming the imposter syndrome. It’s learning from the coaches (we cannot call them trainers in this course) and other participants.

If you want to prepare for the PSM III assessment, Scrum Master 3.0 may help. It will help you to be precise and concise in your language. It will help you reflect on your actions as a Scrum Master. However, this is not a PSM III course. The goal is not to pass the assessment. And to be honest, the course is not designed to help you pass the assessment. However, it won’t do any harm for sure, taking you in the right direction.

Learning objective

We are not able to tell you what you will learn upfront. This will be different for each participant. We will focus on the learning goals of the group and the participants individually, and during the course we will coach everybody on what we see and hear. One of the outcomes of Scrum Master 3.0 is the discovery of new personal objectives, which might help you in your further Scrum Master journey.

Training setup

During these two days, we create a safe environment for participants to be open and honest about their thoughts. We will spend time enabling that. We will get to know each other. But we will also have a lot of fun. We will play a two-day game in which each participant takes turns in taking on impediments, cases, teaching moments, and battles!

  • Impediments are situations that prohibit the empirical process. We challenge the participants to come up with a method or technique they know could help solve the impediment
  • Cases describe situations that we have encountered in real life. Whenever you get a case, you throw the Scrum Values dice and discover how one of the Scrum Values can help you analyze and approach the situation at hand
  • Teaching is an important skill for a Scrum Master since you should be able to explain Scrum and other Agile related frameworks, methods, and techniques. Suppose you’re in the elevator with a new colleague who asks: “What is that Daily Scrum all about?” you need to be able to give him or her a fast, clear, precise, and concise response.
  • Battle, not a fight. Promise. Sometimes things are going on in organizations that you do not agree with. Can you find the respect for the other party to listen to arguments and not just rant in your own thoughts? Or do you clearly state that everyone needs to take a seat during the Daily Scrum? A battle challenges you to look at a situation from several perspectives and learn from that.

Preparation

This course is designed to support Scrum Masters in their journey. Some participants just started, others have years of experience as an Agile coach. Our experience is that each participant will learn, including the ones facilitating the Scrum Master 3.0.
If you have never read the Scrum Guide, you might want to start there and get some hands-on experience in Scrum Mastery first. The most important preparation for the course is to bring some challenging learning goals, questions, and a lot of enthusiasm with you!

Assessment

There is no assessment attached to this course. Scrum Master 3.0 will help you in your journey, no matter what assessment you plan to take (with regards to Scrum Mastery). Yes, also the PSM III. It does not come with the package. And if the PSM III assessment is what you are after; this course will help you discover there is always room for improvement.
We would love to meet you and walk a bit with you on your journey. We’re just travelers, just like you. Will we see you there?

After this course

You have been trained to think and act like a Scrum Professional. You have insight in your strengths and uncertainties and you are open about it. You will focus on empiricism instead of solutions. You will have a commitment to challenge the status quo. You will have the courage to be vulnerable. You will respect every one of your team members, even if they don’t think the same way you do.

What others before you said about this course

“A journey during which I was given the opportunity and safety to explore myself as a Scrum Master and to find ways to improve myself. Not so much with theory but with practical things. To be honest there were moments where I was maximally pulled outside of my comfort zone and hit some personal impediments. And other times just a lot of laughing with each other. But that’s what made it for me so valuable these 2 days. An open, safe space with sometimes seriousness and mostly a lot of fun but always with the goal of learning and improving.” - Remco Poortvliet

“Notice I didn’t call it a training because the facilitators aren’t holding a lecture about Scrum. I also didn’t call it a workshop because that wouldn’t do it justice. The Scrum Facilitators create an environment where we could inspect and adapt the way we present our message about Scrum. It’s all about the feedback you get from your peers and the facilitators. So you get to improve getting and giving feedback.
My lesson learned here is that when you think over your delivery, the message isn’t lost. I could have answered this question like “I’ve heard about Sprint 0. In the Scrum Guide there isn’t a mention about this. Who knows what Sprint 0 is?” After that you can have a talk about it. When not starting with a hard statement, people are more open to listen to you.
If you are a Scrum Master or Agile coach with experience and you want to improve your skills in coming up with an answer fast, concise and precise and in the right way, this is a journey for you.” - Sven de Koning

“If you have a lot of years experience in Scrum Mastering and/or Agile coaching and are willing to take the next step in becoming the best Scrum Master you can be, then take this SM 3.0 journey and become a Scrum diamond.” - Marc Eelen

“Scrum Master 3.0. a brilliant experience! I recommend it to any Scrum Master who's reached the point where they wonder how to apply their knowledge & experience more effectively!” - Erik de Bos

“I was not looking for more theory, I wanted to brainstorm with fellow colleagues in a safe environment about Scrum Values and principles. I wanted to open up my mind and challenge my standard way of thinking… And Scrum Facilitators delivered just that and more! With their energy and pragmatic and original approach they came up with Scrum Master 3.0. And honestly, if you have been working as a Scrum Master for a while, please check them out. I can fully recommend this” - Esther Snijders

I love the interaction of the training. Trainers with good knowledge, theory versus practice. Not only boring PPT sheets. It is all very helpful that the trainers are also consultants. Therefore use cases can be shared. Due to the Covid-19 situation, the training was given to few candidates and a big space. This way of training does provide you a safe feeling during the training.

Great content, great delivery and exercises w. large group. Full disclosure, I am a PST. I enjoyed the advanced PSPO training a lot. The content was great and the delivery with exercises was just good, also for the size of the group (>20 people). The trainers were also very open and incorporated our feedback from day 1 into day 2.

I enjoyed two days PSPO-A training from Kai and Sjoerd. It was a fun and great course due to combination of examples Kai and Sjoerd shared what they experienced as well the way they facilitated this course with different breakout sessions. I also thought it was great balance and good energy between the two trainers even though the course was online.

I really liked the class PSMII with Scrum Facilitators. Jasper and Chee-Hong did a great job facilitating the training online. A lot was discussed in breakout rooms, where we were able to discuss all kinds of agile topics. Because of the training, I really understood the essence of a professional scrum master, so the exam wasn't too hard for me in the end!

Personally the way of teaching is really important. You can always have a powerpoint slide and teach people the things that they have to know. But by playing random games and challenging each other with questions. you wont be learning only but also having fun and get know things even better.

Loads of interactive elements and learning through doing. Quite some facilitation techniques SM could use. Small group (11 people) and almost all exercises were in smaller groups giving enough time for everybody to express themselves. Why not 5? We didn't talk a lot about the training relationship to PSM II and what you can expect from the questions for the certificate. We touched it only briefly regarding practical details. Overall, if you don't want PPT presentations and want interactive sessions with your chance to shape it, I can recommend Scrum Facilitators!

A welcome difference from the usual workshops. Instead of just receiving or interactively working on cases, you are triggered here to start a conversation with your colleagues based on your own situation. Actually thinking about the applicability of the subject matter and the knowledge acquired.

I really enjoyed the 2-day course and found it a really beneficial couple of days. Steve and Ziryan were fantastic trainers, providing a wealth of experience and knowledge. I was concerned before the course, it would be just an extended session looking at how to pass the certification and was pleasantly surprised with how to course was interactive and gave actual tools and techniques to use in the future. I loved the multi-culture feel of the group and spending time with people situated in different countries, making some new connections and friends for the future.

Scrum isn't that hard to understand, but at the beginning you need to have a new mindset for it. The guys from scrum-facilitators uses, besides slides, posters, exercise-cards a simple but very effective way of showing you, that new mindset. They also use LEGO! It looks funny at the beginning, "Are we going to build something with LEGO?" But it gives you the correct mindset during that complete learning process of scrum. Thanks for the Scrum class!
